Sunday, January 26 all day
Proteus Gowanus as been invited to give a talk and to create an installation at TEDxGowanus on Sunday, January 26. But the tickets are sold out, so Proteus Gowanus is hosting a simulcast “Viewing Party” during the TEDxGowanus event. Stop by the gallery for beer and watch the event as it streams live from across the canal. TEDxGowanus will stream the talks from their website starting at 11am and we will be watching.
For the paid event, Proteus Gowanus collaborating artists and educators have created an interactive installation called Life and Death on the Gowanus Canal. The installation will revolve around the skull of the baby minke whale that died in the Gowanus in 2007, and will include: an artist-made “broadside” by Christina Kelly with illustrations and news items of animal and human sightings in and around the canal from the 1860s to the present; an interactive installation that will hover above the heads of guests listing lost and found Gowanus flora and fauna; and an exhibit of selected Gowanus artifacts and books from our Hall of the Gowanus. Only ticketed attendees can see the installation at the TEDx event but, afterwards, the whale skull and elements of the installation will travel to our Hall of the Gowanus, where you can see them through March.
