As part of our yearlong exploration of WATER, we are happy to host this unique presentation by a textile expert (and longtime Proteus collaborator) on the relationship between water and textiles.

In this illustrated talk, Janice Everett will discuss the relationship of textile manufacture and design to the environment, exploring the process of dyeing (traditional and industrial), the properties of fiber that make fabrics absorbent, and the techniques that have been created to protect them from water. Along the way, we will discover how water patterns are used as inspiration, as a form of protection and as a naturally created part of a process.

Trained in basic design, fashion, and textiles at British art schools and gaining a MA degree at RCA London, Janice Everett is an artist who has worked extensively in the New York fashion industry as a textile designer and art director, trend forecaster and vintage specialist. As an educator she has developed and taught courses on design, product development and fashion history at NIFT in India, lectured on the college circuit in the UK, worked as an adjunct professor at FIT and now in the Merchandizing department at LIM College for the Business of Fashion.
